Somatic Days are in-person immersions in regulating the Autonomic Nervous System. They are led by facilitators from around the world who are researchers, clinicians, and healers that specialize in modalities that address Nervous System Dysregulation.
This September Somatic Day is centered around quieting the MIND. CONNECTING to the BODY.
Here are the day's events:
Yoga has long been studied as a technique to support patients with an array of conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and chronic stress. It’s a gentle, compassionate, and transformative practice. On this somatic Day, trauma-informed somatic yoga practitioner, Paula Weithman, M. Ed., LPC. will lead us in a special session of yoga in nature. In teaching, Paula uses a mindfulness-based yoga practice to guide students into a place of receptivity that develops insight and self-understanding. Her style is clear and compassionate. She believes that yoga is a medicine for the body/mind and incorporates her background as a yoga therapist and mindfulness-based psychotherapist into her private practice. Her aim is in facilitating people’s development of a stronger relationship with themselves as it relates to vitality & well-being. Paula’s personal practice started in 1976. As a teacher, she is a certified International Yoga Therapist, and a certified Intermediate Jr.3 level Iyengar Instructor. She is also accredited through the Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500hr and is certified 500hr. through Namaste International. She also has trained in Body Mind Centering with Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, and Mind/Body Integration with Anodea Judith. No previous yoga experience is required. Simply bring an open heart.
As we transition from our yoga modality, Andrea Bednar will be facilitating a walking meditation session. Meditation through movement can help you practice being present in the moment- in the NOW- of life. As Ekhart Tolle puts it, there is no other life than NOW yet we often keep our minds ruminating on the past or planning and daydreaming about a future. This modality can help you train your mind to be in the present moment giving your nervous system the opportunity to experience safety and calm. Andrea is a Master certified Integral Coach (taking the whole person into account). She’s completed a 30-hour course on the Spiritual Dimensions of the Body, been a Diamond Heart Path student, practicing continuously, for 14 years. She is currently completing year one of her three-year introduction to becoming a Diamond Heart Path Teacher. Andrea has numerous human and spiritual development certifications. This is promising to be a grounding and healing modality.
We will close our day out with a group Reiki experience led by Reiki Master, Maria Burton. Overlapping data from some studies support the ability of Reiki to reduce anxiety and pain and suggest its usefulness in inducing relaxation, improving fatigue and depressive symptoms, and strengthening overall well-being. The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews contains a review on the use of touch therapies (including Reiki) for pain and a protocol for using Reiki for psychological symptoms. Reiki has been increasingly offered as part of workplace wellness programs to address burnout and improve skills in healthcare and other industries, as well as in university wellness centers. Being in space with Maria is always a gift.
You will bring your lunch to eat picnic style. This event is all outdoors and is rain or shine. We have onsite alternative options if rain shows. Somatically Rooted is located as a part of 56 Wildlife management acres in Lake Ray Roberts. The land is incredibly nurturing and we are conscious about our footprint. You will want to plan to be outdoors for the day and will receive support instructions upon your registration.
